Life without Festivals

blog dreams ever after festivals life music ontario summer

What a rough f*cking year.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect the pandemic as a whole, or Ontario’s lockdowns to last this long. No matter where you’re from, I imagine you’ve felt the same to some degree.

If you’ve finally gotten a chance to return to a festival, YAAAYYY! I am so, so happy for you. (While also being slightly jealous.) It’s been strange to be without them or just concerts and events in general for so long! My heart goes out to the nightlife and hospitality industry - which I imagine will be forever changed because of COVID.

I was doing ok in the beginning, without events and outings we saved a decent amount of money and were able to do some house renos we hadn’t been able to do. Read a lot of books, sewed a lot of masks and generally made do. However, it’s now June 2021 and Ontario is still in lockdown, with no festivals on the horizon for the next YEAR. Holy crap. The sadness and feelings of loss have seeped in, and the general feeling of melancholy.

I’ve gone to Dreams Music Festival (previously known as Digital Dreams) every year since 2013. To have missed the last two years honestly just makes me want to cry. I miss my rave friends, (I mean hell, I miss everyone at this point) my customers, meeting amazing strangers - I miss the music, the dancing, the memories. It feels like a year and a half of my life I’ve wasted just sitting at home. On the upside I know it’s not my fault, but that’s little condolence when everything seems so far away still from returning to normal.

I honestly can’t wait to be at a festival again, and I hope to see so, so many of you out there with me. If you’re feeling down, you’re not alone! Reach out if you just need to chat, or just want someone to listen. Be kind, my babes.

Xoxo Kate
